Entry 10 - New Movement

A short post on my preparation for the implementation of Katt’s new movement sytem.

This week was mostly research and set-up for the new movement system I wanted to implement for the game. My attention was brought to a site named Sonic Retro, a fansite for the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. On this site in particular was a physics guide with information as to how physics are calculated in the classic Sonic games. I decided to read up on this guide as it may provide assistance in implementing the movement system for our game, since it is inspired by the early Sonic games.

Entry 09 - What's Next

A short blog post on what I’ll be moving on to next.

This’ll be a mighty short one. Just a note on what I’ll be working on for the following week or so. After tightening up the stage background for my level, I decided to take over from Will and start working on player movement as I feel I can get more work done coding rather than drawing. In the meantime, Will’ll be working on enemy sprites while Adrian will code the behaviour for the enemies. Our goal for the moment is to get all our mechanics finished and integrated into one level for the time being.

Entry 08 - Background Battles

A small segment on my attempts to create a scrolling background for the level I’m working on.

This week’s been a mixed one, in truth. It was devoted to creating a stage background for my level, one that looked appropriate and would be easily understood by the player when they perceive it. I’ve had some small successes, and I now have a parallax scrolling background for my level. That being said, my severe lack of skills when it comes to creating digital art (as well as traditional art) has me feeling that my background could be made a lot better.

Entry 07 - UI Troubles

My seventh post, in which I discuss a troublesome bug I discovered in my UI.

This week’s been a small one for myself, as I’ve been visiting relatives out of town for a few days. As a result, I’ve only had time this week to try to fix some issues that remained on my UI scene. Let’s get into it.

Entry 06 - Joy with Joysticks

My sixth post, where I go into my experience setting up the inputs for this game.

After finishing the main menu last week, I decided to take a look at implementing compatibility with joysticks for our game. It was something I figured was best to be tackled early on, I also felt it was something essential for a platforming game.
